in The Michigan Hall at COBO Center.Detroit Bike City is Detroit’s first and only bicycle show and swap meet. Offering 100+ vendors from all over the Midwest the opportunity to show, sell and swap bicycles, parts and everything bikes. This event is held at Cobo Center and brought to you by Detroit’s own Bikes and Murder.
my friend and fellow bikes & murder rider is selling his 2009 kona smoke bicycle signed by david byrne.
2009 Kona Smoke bicycle signed by ROCK LEGEND, BICYCLE ENTHUSIAST & TALKING HEADS FRONTMAN DAVID BYRNE for SALE! Heres the story. David Byrne comes to Detroit for a huge bike tour we do here in Detroit called the Tour DeTroit. When he gets here to write is blog he doesn’t have a bike to ride. Well a friend of mine owns a bicycle shop and when David was unable to obtain a rental bike from them due to the fact that they were sold out they called me. I was shooting the video that year for the Tour and I wasn’t riding and I happened to have a bike that was basically brand new that was in David’s size. I was honored to loan one of my idols my bike. When I ran into David on the tour route he had removed all my spoke cards. This kinda bothered me seeing as how I had loaned him my bike but nonetheless I knew he’d replace them before returning my bike. Wrong! When I got my bike back my cards were still gone. When I contacted all the proper parties about obtaining them I was told that David had thrown them away. What? Excuse me. Needless to say I was offered a signed copy of his book to replace my memories and trophies. Well that doesn’t work for me so my loss is your gain. The bike is in 100% working condition. It has an autograph on the downtube that says, “Thanks Jason” signed David Byrne. Not only has the bike had a ton of upgrades but it has DAVID’S NAME ON IT!!!

i would have started volunteering a long time ago if i’d known that using a steel grinder and throwing 100 or so bikes down stairs would be involved.
my entire left hand and the left side of my face were covered in little red spots after being riddled with bits of metal.
also - judging by the photo of my hand, you might think i have the skin of a 90 year old, but it doesn’t normally look like that. i don’t think…
yesterday was my first saturday off since august. and my first non-holiday day off since march. as this is clearly a rare thing in my life, i wanted to make the most of it. so i got up early and did things. i am too exhausted from all the excitement of yesterday to write much about it myself - also, amercian cycle and fitness in royal oak tried to kill me by turning my bicycle into a death machine, so i kind of almost died this morning on my ride to the gym. fortunately for them i did not die, nor was i injured [despite having to run into oncoming traffic to rescue my pedal from the giant escalade filled with lutherans on their way to church that was about to run it over.] it’s no coincidence the bionic woman is my namesake, i’m kind of unstoppable. okay, fine - i didn’t actually come close to getting killed, but my right pedal did fall off as i was going through an intersection. anyway, you just read what Laura wrote about my almost last day on earth.
Let’s see… Started off the morning by checking out the new Astro Coffee in Detroit, then drove to Plymouth to visit Rumi’s Passion Gluten Free Bakery… Next stop: First ever visit to the Motown Museum (SO awesome. Go NOW if you haven’t ever been there), then off to the Live Green Fair in Ferndale (mostly to eat fries) along with stops at Rustbelt Market and Signature Tattoo. THEN a late lunch at Amici’s Pizza & Living Room in Berkley and a quick nap before catching the opening night of ‘Thank You For Being a Friend:The Unauthorized GOLDEN GIRLS Musical Parody’ at the Ringwald Theatre. Finally, wrapped up the night at Small’s in Hamtramck to see William Elliott Whitmore and the Thornbills. Even better, it was all with this girl on a very, very rare day off. Whew! All in all I’d say all this points to a resoundingly successful, ass-kickingly good Saturday in and around Detroit…
i can’t wait to put this on my body.
Home sweet home. Very limited edition tee for Criterium Detroit. Get them at the Bikes & murder tent this weekend.
Bikes and Murder presents: Slow Roll to Slow Jams’s ride was awesome. Despite the flat tire that Mike got it was a perfect night of drinking and cruising around Detroit.
Slow Roll to Slow Jams will be taking place every monday evening - until it gets too cold. the meet up time is 8pm @ woodbridge pub. ALL are welcome.
see you next monday!
